From News Anchor To Astrologer: Geetu Parmar's Journey With Mahadev, Gemstones And Faith
"As long as we shed tears in front of the world, the world mocks us. But the day we shed tears before Mahadev, and those tears reach him, the world bows at our feet."
On the Accompany Akki podcast, astrologer Geetu Parmar spoke with host Akash Kumar about her journey from crime reporter and news anchor to Vedic astrologer, her devotion to Mahadev, and what people often get wrong about astrology.
Fame without peace
Geetu began her career in 2004 as a crime reporter at DD News, then became a news anchor. She had a name, recognition and success, but, as she puts it, no peace.
"Everyone is running," she said. "But if you don't know your destination, you just keep running, and you get tired."
A short stint in Mumbai
While working in Punjab, actors visiting from Mumbai encouraged her to try the film industry. She went to Mumbai, auditioned at Contiloe Films and landed a role in a horror serial. Facing a film camera, she said, was very different from facing a news camera.
But within a month or two, an inner intuition told her she was losing something important. She returned to Delhi and went back to her media job.
The prediction she rejected
While interviewing astrologer Pandit Sudesh ji for a channel, he told her: "This isn't your line. You will become an astrologer."
She refused. She loved the glamorous life, she said, and couldn't imagine living like a pandit. He replied that when the time came, she would move away from all of it.
Looking back, she believes ego was in the way. "As long as there is 'I' in you, you are not grounded," she said. "When you show ego before God, he says: come, child, first let me break your ego."
Why she quit media in 2007
Behind the success, life at home wasn't peaceful. Her married life was disturbed, and despite earning well, she couldn't understand where the money was going. Remedies from different pandits weren't helping.
So she decided to study astrology herself:
- She started reading books on Vedic astrology
- She took classes from different teachers and pandits, including her guru Vyas ji
- She began matching planetary periods with what was happening in her own life
While she was in Mumbai, an astrologer had also told her that great success could cost her her family. Her family meant everything to her, so in 2007 she left the media industry completely. She later moved into a clothing business while continuing her studies.
Mahadev as father and guru
Geetu describes herself as a devotee of Mahadev. "For me, Mahadev isn't just God. He is my father, my guru, my pride," she said.
She credits her identity and recognition to Ujjain, where she now goes every month and stays for three to four days. She feels it's where she receives her own healing, so she can help others.
She also shared a moving story. Years ago, her son's friend asked if she had been to Kailash. She said not physically, but she often visualised it. He later brought her holy water from there. When it reached her hands, she said, it felt like an invitation from Mahadev himself.
Do gemstones work?
"Stones work," Geetu said, "but they work when you have belief."
She explained the different types, as she understands them:
- Bhagya ratna: a stone linked to fortune
- Karak ratna: a stone linked to your work and karma, which can be worn long term
- Jeevan ratna: a stone that can be worn for life
- Dasha-based stones: worn only during a specific planetary period
She shared what she wears herself:
- Panna (emerald): for her current Budh (Mercury) dasha, and also her karak ratna
- Rahu stone: for her current Rahu antardasha, which she plans to remove once it ends
- Firoza (turquoise): which she believes keeps negativity away
- A Mahakal thread: which she never removes and renews at Ujjain every month
She also mentioned clear quartz, which she associates with clarity and grounding, and a tiger eye bracelet.
Note: Gemstones and crystals are matters of personal belief. They are not a substitute for medical or mental health care.
Is buri nazar real?
Geetu believes it is. Every profession has rivals, she said, and not everyone is happy to see others grow.
She explained energy through Mahadev himself. He is worshipped both by
